When they found him back across the sea, they said, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” (The Message)

Many years ago, I gave a series of lectures on John’s Gospel at the Regent’s Bible College, which was then situated in Nantwich, Cheshire. In my preparations, I remember reading one fine commentator, who said about this verse, ‘We know the more pertinent question should be, ‘How did you get here?’ Had He not walked some of the way on water?!

May we never lose the wonder of Jesus.

‘Thanks be to thee, our Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits which thou hast given me,
for all the pains and insults which thou hast borne for me.
O merciful Redeemer, Friend and Brother,
may I know thee more clearly,
love thee more dearly,
and follow thee more nearly.’ (Attributed to Richard of Chichester,1197 – 1253)
