Stephen’s Prayer for the day – June 2012.

Prayer for 29th June 2012 – Help us to remember, Sovereign Lord that, your Word stands above the Ahabs of this age. We rejoice that their knees will bow, and their tongues confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Prayer for 28th June 2012 – Lord God, only wise ruler of the universe, please let me always see things from your point of view. Your ways are not my ways; they are higher. Your thoughts are not my thoughts; they dwell infinitely above mine. Without your wisdom I will live at a very low level, and be duped by the things this world values. Don’t let me be taken in.

Prayer for 27th June 2012 – Into my heart, into my heart, come into my heart Lord Jesus. Come in today; come in to stay. Come into my heart Lord Jesus.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 128.

Prayer for 26th June 2012 – Lord, I want to ask that worthless things will have no place in my life. Help me to hold fast to what is of supreme value, and give me wisdom to discard the rest.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 127.

Prayer for 25th June 2012 – Thank you Father that you have lifted me up from the dust and made me for a distinct purpose. Help me to know it, and do it, and not go beyond it. Let me never kick against it, knowing that in your will is peace.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 126.

Prayer for 22nd June 2012 – What an immense privilege it is, Heavenly Father, to be alive in your world, and to know that my life will influence others. I ask that everyone I come into contact with, however briefly, will be affected for God and for good in the encounter.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 125.

Prayer for 21st June 2012 – Lord, keep my feet from turning away from you. May I avoid the pain of having twisted feet.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 124.

Prayer for 20th June 2012 – Lord, people tend to judge others by what they see on the outside, but you look at my heart. May it be that you are pleased with what you see on the inside of my life. I want my heart to be fully devoted to you.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 123.

Prayer for 19th June 2012 – O Lord, may I not settle for bronze in my walk with you, when I can have silver and, preferably gold. Give to me an undiminished desire for your very best.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 122.

Prayer for 18th June 2012 – Lord, I want a life that is all of a piece; a seamless garment. Deliver me from any tendency to pretend. Let me be filled through and through with your integrity.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 121.

Prayer for 15th June 2012 – Help me Lord to undeviatingly hold to your Word. Let me hold it so tightly that it will never be snatched from my grasp. Keep me from believing things simply out of convenience; because they are what I want to hear. May I never lose sight of the dangers involved in straying from your truth.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 120.

Prayer for 14th June 2012 – I open my hands to fully receive your Word this day dear Lord. I thank you for its restorative power at work on all the withered areas of my life, as I walk in its brilliant light.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 119.

Prayer for 13th June 2012 – Lord Jesus, I want to be like you, walking through each day, living each night in communion with the Heavenly Father. Help me to keep in step with His plans for my life, and not invent my own.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 118.

Prayer for 12th June 2012 –  I pray for all leaders in every sphere of life. Lord, give them servant hearts to always put the people they lead before themselves. Cause them to admit their weakness and ignorance and seek out good counsel. Above everything else, may they be people who listen to you and act obediently.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 117.

Prayer for 11th June 2012 – Help me, dear Lord, to carefully guard my heart, so that I do not fritter away this one wonderful life you have given me.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 116.

Prayer for 8th June 2012 – May I never try to defend myself against your Word Lord, but always fully expose every dark corner of my life to its penetrating and, sometimes unwelcome rays.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 115.

Prayer for 7th June 2012 –  Lord, my heart cleaves to you. I love you. To whom else can I go? You alone have the words of eternal life. In you I lack nothing. Why would I ever want to return to that empty way of life? Keep my heart for your exclusive use. Let it never be stray from its true home.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 114.

Prayer for 6th June 2012 –  Help me Lord to hold tight to you, and let go of anything that would spoil my relationship with you. Above all, I thank you that I am held tightly in the grip of your grace.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 113.

Prayer for 5th June 2012 – Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for all the gifts you have entrusted to my care. I don’t deserve your super-abundant generosity. I want you to be pleased with my handling of your property. Let no material thing own my heart. I belong exclusively to you.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 112.

Prayer for 4th June 2012 –  Lord Jesus, I can never adequately put into words what you mean to me. You will always be far greater than any message that is conveyed about you. But let my heart always overflow, spilling out its loving contents in praise and thanksgiving.

For today’s Bible Notes – See Daily Bible Notes for June – No: 111.

Prayer for 1st June 2012  – Thank you Lord for your immense and amazing grace and mercy. I thank you so much that you visit the ‘tip’ to reclaim lives for your service. When you have finished us, no-one would guess where we came from. You are indeed a wonderful God.

Stephen’s Prayer for the Day – May

31 May – Heavenly Father, as long as I live in this world don’t let me think I’ve arrived. I want to keep moving forward in you. Don’t let me settle for anything less than your very best.

For today’s Bible Notes – Please see  below – Stephen’s Daily Bible Notes 2012 – MayNo: 109.

30 May –  I ask for a prayer life that is so vibrant and real, that when I get up off my knees, everyone I come into contact and speak to will be blessed.

For today’s Bible Notes – Please see  below – Stephen’s Daily Bible Notes 2012 – MayNo: 108.

29 May –  Lord, don’t allow me to forget that you always monitor my heart. Let me really grasp that you are not necessarily impressed by outwardly spectacular things that tend to win human admiration. May my ambition always be to have a heart that is perfect towards you.

I also pray for all who do not yet know you, that you will give them a new heart. I ask these things in Jesus’ Name.

For today’s Bible Notes – Please see  below – Stephen’s Daily Bible Notes 2012 – MayNo: 107.

28 May – Lord, please pour on your church the Spirit of prayer. Plant in our hearts such a hunger and thirst for you. May the place of prayer be so precious to us, and not strewn with the cobwebs of neglect.

For today’s Bible Notes – Please see  below – Stephen’s Daily Bible Notes 2012 – MayNo: 106.

25 May –  Dear Lord, how can I ever thank you enough that the innocent Jesus was treated as guilty in my place, so that I, the guilty, could be declared innocent. This is a miracle of sheer grace. (1 Kings 8: 32).

For today’s Bible Notes – Please see  below – Stephen’s Daily Bible Notes 2012 – MayNo: 105.

24 May – Lord, your Word says that you ‘confide’ in those who ‘fear’ you. Help me to be such a person: one who can hear your faintest whisper, and respond obediently.

For today’s Bible Notes – Please see  below – Stephen’s Daily Bible Notes 2012 – MayNo: 104.

23 May –  I have to be honest, Lord; I don’t like this hammering business. But help me to not resent it. I know I need knocking into shape: the wonderful ‘shape’ of Jesus.

For today’s Bible Notes – Please see  below – Stephen’s Daily Bible Notes 2012 – MayNo: 103.

22 May –  Lord Jesus, let my life be one of stability and strength as I build on you my Rock. Whatever forces may try to shake me, cause me be immoveable in you.

For today’s Bible Notes – Please see  below – Stephen’s Daily Bible Notes 2012 – MayNo: 102.

21 May – Help me Lord to ensure that the ‘things of God’ are much bigger in my life than my own ‘things’.

For today’s Bible Notes – Please see  below – Stephen’s Daily Bible Notes 2012 – MayNo: 101.

18 May –  Heavenly Father, I thank you for all my brothers and sisters in Christ. I know that I cannot fully play my part without them. Help me to always show them appreciation and give encouragement. I recognise how much I need them. Thank you that this very truth helps to keep pride in check. I want to walk humbly before you all my days.

‘Home thoughts from abroad’

‘In 2011, my wife, Jilly, and I set out to read through the Bible from beginning to end. In January 2012 I began to write notes on the passages we were looking at. We invite you to join us in sharing these ‘Home thoughts from abroad’. (If you’re wondering why I’ve used this title, have a quick look at the ‘About’ page.)

DailBible thoughts 785: Tuesday 6th January 2015: Proverbs 23:19-28

Here are three more sayings of the wise men, from that collection of 30 proverbs that begins at chapter 22:17.

The first is a warning against excessive living, particularly with regard to food and drink (19-21). There are practical reasons for self-restraint. If you go down the route of over-indulgence it will take your money and sap your strength and health. Again, we marvel at the down to earth wisdom of the Bible. If only the world heeded it! This could have saved a lot of people a lot of problems over the Christmas season. ‘’Don’t drink too much wine and get drunk; don’t eat too much food and get fat. Drunks and gluttons will end up on skid row, in a stupor and dressed in rags.’’ The Message. Live like that for too long and you may well end up featuring in a documentary about obesity or binge-drinking! Perhaps both!!

The second proverb concerns honouring father and mother throughout life, and bringing joy and delight to them (22-24). Live in a way that will make your parents proud, if at all possible. The writer envisages doing this by obeying the ‘’truth’’ (23) taught by parents. For him, this will mean the truth that is in God’s Word, or in agreement with it. This is an important word to us all. Whatever God our Father has shown us we should cling to tightly, and live it. ‘’Buy truth – don’t sell it for love or money.’’ The Message. ‘’Do not sell the truth at any price…It costs something to live by the truth, but it costs even more to abandon the truth.’’ Warren W. Wiersbe: ‘With the Word’, p.429. (See also Proverbs 4:7)

The third is about the danger of falling into sexual immorality and adultery, and the destructiveness of such behaviour (26-28). This is a repeated theme in ‘Proverbs’. The ‘fruit’ may look delicious on the tree, but once eaten it is found to be poisonous.

How many lives and marriages could be saved by this Bible passage alone!

Prayer: Lord, let your Word spread through all the earth, and cause men to hear and heed its wise truth. Thank you Lord that ‘a fence at the top of the cliff is better than ‘an ambulance at the bottom.’ Thank you for your ‘fences’ – lovingly put in place to protect us; not to ruin our fun!
